Jamstec expedition data showed that the salinity effect on global ocean circulation may be one of the most interesting issues in examining an global circulation model. Jamstec ocean observation programme including hydrographic measurements by a research vessel and an ocean observation buoy system are designed to serve various purposes for oceanographic researches, ocean monitoring and model validations. We presented an example of working hypothesis of the effect of salinity forcing in the equatorial ocean dynamics and possible climate drift in SST between Indian and the western equatorial Pacific oceans as a part of multi-purpose ocean observation programme.
